A Piece of Johns Hopkins History

Gallery G at the Beveled Edge was asked by Johns Hopkins Medicine to handle a very special project — mounting 1000 original slate tiles from Hopkins' landmark dome in three choices of superbly crafted frames.

  • Hopkins tile

During the complete exterior renovation in 2005, many of the 7" x 14" slate tiles that covered the dome in an overlapping, fish-scale pattern were saved from the original Johns Hopkins Hospital building opened in 1889. Johns Hopkins Medicine is offering these unique mementos of Hopkins heritage for sale. Funds raised through the sale will be used to further the tradition of Johns Hopkins serving the East Baltimore community and to restore a Habitat for Humanity House within walking distance of the dome.
